Ontario 2013 Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Please join us for the Ontario Region Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday May 25, 2013 at the Barrie Public Library on 60 Worsley Street in downtown Barrie. To find out how to get there see this map. This is your chance to meet the people who make CANSI Ontario work and help make it better.

At 12 noon we will have an informal get-to-know-your-board lunch. The AGM meeting will start officially at 12:30 p.m. We will also try to have a live web connection for people with decent Internet connection who cannot attend this meeting physically. Connection details will be sent to individuals who registered for this AGM and selected the "Virtual Meeting" option.

The first International Telemark Instructors Meet, known as InterTele 2013 will take place in Snowbird, Utah for 5 days, April 17-21, 2013

This event will be attended by telemark instructors from around the world and features the following themes:

A few small logistical issues came into play and we will be moving the AGM from its original time of 18:30 pm to 15:30 pm Saturday. It was an oversight and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

CANSI National Seminar has a reservation for up to 25 people for the Paradise Camp XC Dinner Tour Saturday January 19th.
First come first served basis. Register @ Silver Star Guest Information (Village Centre) in person.

5:30PM > Meeting /Orientation in front of Ski Dazzle
5:45PM > Departure for Paradise Camp
6:15-6:30 PM > Arrival @ Paradise Camp
6:30-8:00 PM > Dinner
8:00 PM > Departure
8:30 -8:45 pm > Village Arrival

Headlamps recommended
Tour participants must be a minimum of a strong / novice-low intermediate XC ability & in reasonable health
Green & Blue Trails are used
Dinner is a two course meal with tea or coffee. Wine / desert specials are offered

This session is aimed to serve as a review of the skiing skills used by CANSI with particular attention paid towards (i) physics (the natural forces created in skiing) and (ii) biomechanics (how the body acts & responds to these forces.)

"A&D IMPROVEMENT" Session
This session is aimed at improving the assessment skills for instructors as well as their development tactics & strategy when teaching.
All levels welcome

Level One Course Conductor Training" Session
This all day session is geared to provide CANSI CC the following competencies / outcomes;
(i) Course outline
(ii) Time allocation
(iii) Required materials / venues / terrain

This session will explore TACTICS & STRATEGIES when dealing with (i) climbing (ii) descending.

"EDGE CONTROL" Session
This session will focus on the needs & outcomes of efficient edging skills when performing;
(i) Step turns
(ii) One Skate

Shane will update CANSI Members on the current technical focus being used at the World Cup for telemark skiing and make the connection to the cross-over benefits of recreational race training for recreational & performance telemark skiers.
Shane currently represents Canada on the Telemark World Cup circuit and is the driving force behind BC Telemark Association (http://bctelemark.com)

Uniform Program 2012-13

It is time to get your Uniform Order in for this winter's season. We are again partnering with Arc'teryx to provide uniforms for CANSI instructors.

This year will be a bit different as we are batching orders so we can get predictable delivery dates for the Uniforms. Sizing is subject to availability so get your orders in early! All the details can be found in the members area on the Uniforms page CANSI Uniforms

The uniform pieces will be delivered in late December from the Nov 15, 2012 order and late January from the Dec 15, 2012.

Telemark Super Course at Whistler - April 2012

Pacific Region hosted a Telemark Super Course at Whistler Blackcomb, April 11-15, 2012, featuring CANSI Telemark Level I, II, and III courses. Participants and Examiners came from all regions to take part. Kawasaki captured some of the scenes from the Telemark Level III course in this video:

]]>Didier Cuche is a Swiss alpine skier on the World Cup circuit. He has 4 wins this season - 3 downhills and 1 super G. He won the Hannenkham for the 5th time this year. This is also the year he decided to retire in style, vintage style that is. He skied his last race of his career in 60 year old alpine gear and clothing. Not quite telemark, but the heels of his skis are not fixed as they are in modern gear. Take a look and decide for yourself - Does technology allow us to ski better?

The latest information for the CANSI National Seminar January 18-22, 2013 at Silver Star, BC will be posted on this page.

The headquarters for the National Seminar at Silver Star will be the National Altitude Training Centre (NATC) in the village. All sessions will start from this location.

Registration & Check-In for the XC National Seminar opens at the NATC 8:00am Friday, January 18.

Registration & Check-In for the Telemark National Seminar opens at the NATC 8:00am Sunday, January 20.

The morning sessions will leave the NATC at 9:00 AM sharp and run until 11:30 AM
The afternoon sessions will leave the NATC at 1:00 PM sharp and run until 3:30 PM

Silver Star has arranged for registered National Seminar participants to purchase trail and lift passes at 50% off the normal day rate. Please bring your CANSI membership card and present it at the ticket window in the village. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR TRAIL/LIFT PASS BEFORE THE SESSION STARTS.
